2010-09-15
Sponsored by BBB, Ky Attorney General, Shred-All Documents & Lowe's Home Improvement

(Lexington, KY) The public is invited to take a step to protect against identity theft by attending a FREE "Shred Day" Event on September 24, 2010, from 12 Noon 5pm at the Hamburg location of Lowe's Home Improvement, 2300 Grey Lag Way, Lexington.  The event is sponsored by the Better Business Bureau of Central & Eastern Kentucky, the Kentucky Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, and Shred-All Documents of Pikeville.

"The Better Business Bureau advises consumers on different ways to protect themselves from identity theft, and shredding documents containing personal, sensitive information is one way to help," said Neil Kingery, BBB of Central & Eastern Kentucky President and CEO. "We are proud to partner with Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and our BBB Accredited Businesses, Shred-All Documents and Lowe's Home Improvement, to present this free opportunity to area residents."

More than 27 million Americans have been victims of identity theft in the last five years. Consumers reported nearly $5 billion in out-of-pocket expenses to deal with it.  "Stolen physical paperwork accounts for almost half (43%) of all identity theft in the United States," Shred-All Documents & Rock Solid Secure Records Management President Tracy Syck said.  "With statistics like that, it's more important than ever to destroy personal documents properly." Shred-All Documents, a secure document destruction company, is committed to helping fellow Kentuckians protect their identity by providing free shred day events.

Some facts about the Shred Day Event:

  • Each person may bring a maximum of 60 pounds of material to shred (1 standard sized bankers box);
  • Staples and paper clips do NOT have to be removed prior to shredding; CD's and DVD's may be brought for shredding (those will not be done on site);
  • Shred-All Documents will provide a truck with a video screen so visitors can actually see their documents being shredded inside the truck;
  • There will be one truck and one trailer with empty lockable bins so that people who do not want to wait can leave items that will be shredded later.
