(Lexington, KY) - A wide range of industries topped the lists of business categories that brought the most complaints and the most inquiries in 2011 at the Better Business Bureau of Central & Eastern Kentucky.
"The lists include personal services like insurance and health clubs as well as home and automobile services and products," said Jack Frank, President & CEO of the BBB of Central & Eastern Kentucky. "This is a strong indicator of how often consumers turn to the BBB for information on businesses before hiring or making buying decisions, as well as seeking BBB assistance in resolving customer disputes."
The BBB processed nearly 4700 complaints against companies in the BBB's 64-county service area in 2011. Complaints are processed against BBB Accredited Businesses and non-Accredited Businesses alike. "BBB Accredited Businesses are committed to uphold ethical business standards, which includes their commitment to resolve customer disputes. Consumers can find out about a company's BBB Business Review by checking it out with the BBB first before spending their hard-earned dollars," said Frank.

The public continued to contact the BBB for pre-purchase inquiries in making their business decisions in 2011. "Hundreds of thousands of consumers accessed BBB Business Reviews on companies either through our website at www.bluegrass.bbb.org or by inquiring by phone," said President Frank. "By checking a company's BBB Business Review and how they have handled any customer concerns, they can save themselves some trouble later on."

"Consumers can also cut out the guesswork in choosing a business to provide them with products or services by requesting a free BBB Accredited Business Referral List," Frank explained. "Through our website or by phone, a consumer can get industry-specific listings of BBB Accredited Businesses in our 64-county service area." The most requested categories for these lists were mainly in home repairs and improvements.
